35 Euro Cars That Can Save America: # 9 - Ford Ka
73
The Ka is the oldest design still being produced in this class from any manufacturer except Perodua, with more than a dozen years in production and essentially unchanged from the original model. Fortunately, the 2009 Ka is supposed to be based on a Fiat Panda / 500 platform thus should be a far more modern and capable small car. As the Ka currently sits, it's an economical if clunky option in a class which has some truly stellar vehicles.
The Ford Ka Hatchback 1.3i 70 Studio 3 Door is estimated to carry a North American net sale price of $9,578.57, given the prevailing market pricing of similar automobiles. Its 1297 cc engine powers the car to a top speed of 104 MPH and an acceleration shown by a zero to sixty MPH time of 14.1 seconds. The performance factor of 12.5 is above average for its class. The Ford Ka Hatchback 1.3i 70 Studio 3 Door returns 57.6 MPG in highway driving, 33.6 MPG in the city, and a combined loop mileage of 45.6. With a fuel tank capacity of 8.8 gallons, the car can travel 507 miles on a full tank of unleaded regular fuel, but when it's filled right up to the top of the fuel filler neck, the total range should be approximately 611 miles. When all these price, performance and mileage factors are taken into consideration, the Ford Ka Hatchback 1.3i 70 Studio 3 Door scores a combined Practicality Index of 80, with 100 representing the best, most practical car available and 1 representing a Hummer H3.

My 1.1 litre car was a Ford Escort, made in 1985, and I got it in 1994. I drove it for 2 years, then my sister had it. It wasn't underpowered, either. In fact, all 3 of my adult siblings have cars with 1.2 litre engines, it's just normal here.
My former wife drove Ford Ka like ten years ago. It was cute, no question, but sorta low quality, especially for the price at that time...
I've seen plenty of those around San Diego that've driven up from Mexico. Plenty of other cool Euro cars too - Vectras and Astras and random odd Nissans, as well as quite a few Alfas and Renaults.
Hugely popular car, cant say i like the look

Is it really the case that there are almost no cars in N American with less than a 1.6 engine? Our current Fiat has a 1.6 litre, and I'd say that was above average. My two previous cars were 1.1 and 1.2 litres. And the average MPG we get is about 40.
