Al Qaeda About To Control Pakistan's 100+ A-Bombs. What If They Use Them?

The Pakistani government recently gave in and provided the Taliban something that the fanatical fundamentalist Muslim group ardently desired: implementation of Islamic Shari'a law in the Swat Valley. The government had hoped that Taliban’s demands would be satisfied. However, that most definitely was not the case.

In the past days, the Taliban has thoroughly consolidated control over the district of Buner and are currently moving on Mansehra and Haripur, two regions that are just a few miles from the major cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

What would occur if (or some would say when) the Taliban enter Islamabad? They would then most likely control the Pakistani government.

Most people reading this Hub are now saying... yeah, so what? Why should I care what a bunch of Taliban are doing in faraway Pakistan?

Well... you should care. Why? Pakistan is a very heavily armed nuclear power. From Wikipedia:

In 2000, US Military intelligence estimated that Pakistan's nuclear arsenal may be as large as 100 warheads. The actual size is hard for experts to gauge owing to the secrecy which surrounds the program in Pakistan. In recent developments, retired Brig. General Feroz Khan, previously second in command at the Strategic Arms Division of Pakistans' Military told a Pakistani newspaper the nation has "about 80 to 120 genuine warheads."

That essentially means that there are approximately 100 nuclear warheads which could very likely be in the hands of the Taliban and Al Qaeda by year's end.

What does that mean? Let's take a look at an example of what would occur with just one of these warheads in New York City:

One of Pakistan's 150 kiloton nuclear bombs has just been detonated in the middle of the day at the corner of Fifth Avenue and East 34th St., on the block of the Empire State Building.

 In one second the shock wave blasts outwards at 20 psi, destroying any reinforced concrete and steel buildings. The fireball has a radius of over 1,000 feet. This first circle contains 75,000 people in the day. They will mostly be vaporized.

 Five seconds after detonation the shock wave has blasted out over a mile at a pressure of over 10 psi. Although not every building will immediately collapse, all will be damaged beyond recognition. At this point in time, 300,000 people are dead and over 100,000 severely injured.

 Seven seconds after detonation the shock wave is now over one and a half miles in radius, three miles in diameter, covering an area of over 4 square miles with an overpressure of 5 psi.  Most buildings inside this ring are damaged beyond repair. There are 500,000 people in this outermost ring. Approximately half will be killed immediately and the other half trapped or severely injured. By now massive fires have ignited most of central Manhattan which will continue to spread for at least 24 to 48 hours unchecked.

 Ten seconds after detonation, the ring of overpressure has reached 2 psi and a five mile diameter. Some buildings will continue to stand although with severe damage, blown out windows, etc. Of the 750,000 people in this outermost ring, one third are dead, and the rest are injured to some degree.

Fifteen seconds after detonation, the band is now eight miles in diameter, and there is no building within the area which has not been either totally destroyed or damaged to some extent. Of the 500,000 people in this outermost ring, most of whom will evade serious injury, but may be permanently flashblinded. Keep in mind all of this has happened in half the time it takes to watch a 30 second TV commercial.

Long term fallout will render the gray and black areas uninhabitable for decades or even centuries. The gray area will kill approximately 25% of the humans exposed to it within 30 days. The black area will kill approximately 60% of the humans exposed to it within 30 days.

Out of a total population of three million within the outermost ring, 830,000 will be dead, and another 875,000 injured. It is quite likely that the remaining individuals will suffer radiation sickness which will eventually claim their lives through cancers and other side effects.

The Taliban is just a few days away from possibly turning over control of Pakistan's 100+ nuclear warheads directly to Al Qaeda. The effects of this bomb on New York could be duplicated in every major city in North America and Europe.

...and fifty more around the world. All gone. In seconds. London, Rome, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, Sydney, Toronto... all vaporized. If all 100 nuclear warheads are detonated in these cities there will be at least 200 million immediately dead and another 300 million left to die of radiation sickness and other side effects.

Can anything be done to stop this inexorable advance of the Taliban towards taking over Pakistan at this point in time? Most likely not. Osama Bin Laden is just about to get his hands on over 100 city-annihilating atomic bombs and nothing can stop him. Not that President Obama seems to even have noticed. There has been absolutely not a single major diplomatic consideration extended by the United States of America State Department towards Pakistan since President Barack Hussein Obama came into office.

Yeah... so when you look at the whole situation in this manner... that's why you should care.
