Sorry, I Don't Want A Scientology Ad On My Hubs! Get It Off!
80
I have just noticed that many of my Hubs feature among the regular advertising rotation a banner advertisement for scientology.org.
GET IT OFF MY HUBS!
I have long gone on record as praising HubPages and its management to the skies and I do not in any way want to get them involved in this strong complaint as they likely don't have anything to do with this. Google simply serves up ads onto our Hubs based on whatever its algorithms state are the best matches. Now, I have absolutely no idea why in the name of Xenu, Google would determine that various Hubs I've written in the categories of:
- Motorcycles
- Cars
- PC Technology
- Cuisine
- Bengal Cats
- Authoring & Publishing
- Medical
- Sports
- Socio-Economic
- Nature
- Places
and others have any tie in to Scientology whatsoever!
In my over one thousand Hubs I have bitten my tongue severely on many occasions as I have often been tempted to go off on a tirade against Scientology but always held back. Why? The so-called religion has a habit of striking back mercilessly against its critics and I've had more than enough mean-sprited run ins in various Hubs on all sorts of topics without trying to provoke the Demonic Duo of David Miscavige and Tom Cruise to get on my case.
Time Magazine's coverage of the charges the French government is pressing against Scientology in that nation is clear enough:
French prosecutors are charging Scientology's French affiliate with organized fraud. Six of Scientology's top French officials are defendants in the case that began May 25. When investigating magistrate Jean-Christophe Hullin filed the findings of a nine-year inquiry with prosecutors, he described Scientology as "first and foremost a commercial business" whose interactions with followers are defined by "a real obsession for financial remuneration." The church's bookstores and celebrity center were described by Hullin's investigation as instrumental in ensnaring psychologically fragile people "with the goal of seizing their fortune by exerting a psychological hold."
The reasons for my own profound disgust with Scientology are endless. My own personal experience with how Scientology deals with its followers would fill more than a thousand Hubs. Let it suffice to say that although I profoundly honor and respect all major world religions, Scientology is worthy of the name religion as I'm worthy of the name Jesus Christ.
And, yes, I could say lots more, but I don't particularly savor the prospect of finding a poisonous snake in my mail box tomorrow morning. I wouldn't be so concerned just for myself, but I simply cannot put innocent loved ones at peril.
I don't generally pay much attention to the ads that Google serves up. I rarely make any money at them so they're just a mild distraction that I put up with. But when a prominent square animated banner at the very head of many of my Hubs is vividly promoting Scientology that's when I put my foot down.
I do not want, not now, nor never, a Scientology ad on anything that bears my name. I don't want to associate myself or my writing or my reputation in any way with Scientology. I don't want to make money off Scientology... I don't want to gain one penny from any misguided bozo who would actually click on that Scientology ad. Not only do I advise my readers to NOT CLICK ON THE SCIENTOLOGY AD, but I am asking for their support in getting those advertisements off my Hubs, as well as off of all the other Hubs of the authors who do not support what Scientology stands for (and I can assure you that would be a very large number of Hubbers).
Therefore... PLEASE JOIN ME IN DOING EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO GET THESE SCIENTOLOGY ADS OFF OUR HUBS FOREVER!
Within 24 Hours, This Page Already Has 3 Top Spots In Google "scientology ad" Search! Let The Firestorm Begin!
In over one thousand Hubs, I have NEVER begged for social network hits as my Adsense income averages half a cent/month per Hub so I'm definitely not in this for the $$$... but this issue is important enough that it deserves to reach as many people as possible so that this revolt against these intrusive and unacceptable Scientology ads can be brought to critical mass.
Therefore, please consider Digging this Hub on:
Blogger Demands Google Stop Serving Scientology Ads On Page
... and please please please consider placing links to this on your own social networks and forums. If we all band together we can convince Google to squash this pestiferous, officious, obtrusive ad campaign!

Agree with this one, although Scientologists are welcome to publish here and welcome to their opinion, there should be a way to stop ads from appearing on our profiles that are in direct contradiction with our personal views. I am a Christian, and I really resented seeing an ad for the latest horror movie on my profile page. This is not what I want visitors to see when they are looking for the hub about Psalm 124! What can we do?
The only way to get rid of these ads is to destroy the cult that spawns them. I know how you feel, I saw one on tv the other day, and it was like my space was violated.
However, Google is all about the moneyz, and not likely to listen to the people who keep them rolling in it, that is, us.
Participate in Anonymous raids on the cult in real life. Inform yourself and others, spread the word and the cult will die.
I think that if you use any word that can be associated with money, emotion, or war there will be an ad. I have them too. It kinda makes me sick.
dori
Strong! Thank you for this, I am glad to read words like this. I life in Germany and we have a lot of trouble with this cult. They risc the life of a priest as he drove his car, because he was a critical.
Actually the best thing is to click on their ads - this will put a dent on their budget :P
I just did it! :)
I think Google will catch up with them soon, as it already did with water-4-gas and other scams :)
Bva-ha-ha-ha-ha :D
Is this ad even a google ad? It doesn't say that it is.
Never mind, I just answered the question myself by clicking on one. Definitely Google! I'm going to block it.
Hal, don't worry about tiny tom and David Miscavage, the scientologists are pretty busy getting sued and hiding evidence these days.
Besides, if you want to get attacked by those thugs for telling the truth about scientology you have to get in line. There are over 9000 people ahead of you.
Knowing what the cult of scientology does to it's critics and knowing the abuses they engage in against ex and RPF'd members puts me in full agreement of Hal.
I, for one, don't want to have the hideous reminder of $cientology staring me in the face when I come to view these blogs. It creates a certain amount of stress and frustration for me.
Kudos to you Mr. Licino for speaking your mind, the cult's very own vice president went on & on & on during a recent KGO radio interview about these pervasive ads and bragged extensively about the millions of dollars being spent all in a desparate act to salvage some tiny bit of their well earned reputation as being scum of the earth. Have a listen here, altho i suggest maybe you do this when your not so rip-roaring mad cuz it'll only fire ya up worse & raise your blood pressure several notches ;)

Regarding the other info your sitting on, after all the dirty tricks brought against the innoncent kids protesting the scientology enterprise for the past 15+ months, the authorities are finally taking notice & investigating things. The days of the powers-that-be turning a blind eye are slowly coming to end. For the sake of the 2nd generation victims born into the cult, and whom suffer the worst abuses, i beg you to please-please-please take your info to your local FBI field office - they will listen and possibly help speed up the timetable for "being the right time" for you to take what you know and spill it publicly.
Oh and btw, we anon send you the /SALUTE with full Marcabian Honors for publishing this oh so delicous rant. May the Force Be With You!
No thanks necessary, it is you who deserves the thanks for speaking out. The virtual smell of your oh so delicous dirt is hard to resist, altho i respect the power of serving some dishes cold ;)
One last tip - just in case your not aware... there's another hidden downside to the scilon ads. When they start showing up on scientology-related topics that have a critical perspective, the cult is known to go bawwwwwling to Google that their advertising $$$ are being used to harm their reputation. Then the unsuspecting adsense user gets banned & canned - NO Ads For U - despite not wanting them in the first place.
So altho there is a certain sweet justice seeing them appear on this hub, be careful - if your adsense earnings are important to you, its better to be safe then sorry and configure your account to block the extremely long list of scientology-related urls.
Hal, I completely agree! They are more than welcome to practice their beliefs, to write hubs, and to participate in the fun Hub scene, but I don't want to advertise it!
-Debris
Hal,
Digged it and gave a thumbs up. I hope this helps out your cause.

Hi Hal -
You mentioned the list of topics your blog usually covers. Unless it was totally random, your "medical" themed blogs might have had something to do with the Scientology ads getting placed here. The so-called "Church" of Scientology puts out a lot of anti-psychiatry and anti-pharma propaganda on a regular basis. Part of Scientology's hard-sell tactics involves trying to put forth their quackery as a viable substitute to all types of psychiatric treatment.
But whatever the cause, you have done right by raising your voice and flying the flags of discontent!
I'm a fan of free speech just like the next guy, but enough is enough, I wish these people would just grab their tin cans and go look for Xenu in peace, they are getting beyond annoying.
All the bs $cientology adds have got to go.
I agree with you those ads have to go.
I agree with you, Hal. You make fine points here, as do many of your commentators. I'll tell you something else that bothers me. I have rented 3500 movies from Netflix and they keep recommending homo movies in my recommendations, supposedly based on my viewing history. I would never watch a homo movie, unless I had accidentally swallowed poison and need to puke.
Great job Hal! Stand up for what you believe in! I know I would HATE an ad like this on my hubs. Great job... Hope you win

It's a Beautiful Day on the Interwebz, the walls of the cult's evil empire are beginning to crack, and I ohhhh so hope this helps bring about the "right time" for bringing forth your dirt to ripen all the sooner!
I'm not going to argue over the right to express religious views or anything else - it's just WRONG to have 'scientology' matched up with every single topic and keyword on hubs...I got a kick out of Misha's response *click*
They are going to brain wash you. Click on the ad. You know you want to ...Muhahahahaha
Why don't you start an online petition? It is easy to do. We will all sign it, we are with ya Hal.
dori
Agreed agreed ... I can even see it playing infront of my eyes whenever I close my lids. The other day I had a dream about it too!
UPDATE: The Scientology ads are hiding under a You Tube URL so putting scientology.org in the adsense competitive ad filter will not remove them. Today I found the URL and this is what you need to enter to block the ads, at least for now.
Couldn't agree more, thanks for those links, I've now disallowed them.
Hi Hal - I'm 100% with you on this one. I'm not located in N. America so I thought that those darn Scei (can't even spell it!) Scientology ads were popping into my hubs because of the regional difference. Google adsense and Google itself for that matter is supposed to be all about relevance. I'm glad you spoke up about this. Hopefully somebody over at adsense will chance upon your hub and speak up in the office! -dawei888
Hal, I am checking into all the formats for an online petition, will let you know asap
dori
I HATE THIS THING
LET us ALL put scientology.org on our competitive ad filter and see what happens....
Hal, I could not agree more! And yet, I read this hub - and there it remains. This is ridiculous!
Hal, a Scientology media person actually contacted me about placing links to a YouTube playlist on my blog.
Great hub and...DITTO DITTO DITTO, Hal. You rock!
With your hub and all the fuss you're doing you are contributing to spread scientology even more. that's what they want. can't you see??!! now everybody that doesn't know much about it are goin to click the ads to find out.
you can't fight against scientology... ask tom cruise. LOL
Quite interesting hub Hal. It's a good idea if google could provide us with controversial categories that we could choose to eliminate from our pages.
As always it's always nice to read your hearted opinions here in HubLand!
hal, I started an online petition about the ads, go here to sign and spread the word

Up to 100 score, Hal, so you must have touched a nerve. Fully agree with everything that you say. Isn't it nice to see religious folks and atheists; conservatives and liberals; all joining together in a common cause.
Hate them - they are banned in Greece, and nobody misses them.
I agree with you Hal, I wouldn't want them on my hubs either. I had a bad experience with a scientologist who accused me of poisoning my kids years ago - because they took medicine daily - and it has left me with a very bad taste ever since.
I've dugg this too. I wish you success in getting these ads off your hubs!
I hope than when the elephant notice, he's not going to step on you. good luck!!! i don't like them either but i'm very old and i've been around, i assure you! I'm rather skeptical about your succeding. sorry. wish you the best!
Being new to HubPages, I wasn't sure why they kept creeping up on all my pages...Now I clearly get the picture. Thanks for writing this hub - my sentiments exactly. It amazes me how much money they must have, and how shameful it is that they waste it on such nonsense when there are plenty of causes out there they could be funding as an organized religion. On their behalf, I suppose its an intelligent way to crusade into the future. I don't know too many other "religious" groups that recruit on the internet. But, aren't we done with crusades already? It sure would be nice to see adverts for something a bit more in line with what I'm writing, or for a more favorable organization. Thanks for bringing this to light and speaking out about it. Good luck to us all!
What? scientologists? Ripp the scamers off.
The organization is just another cult in disguise trying to prey on people during their lowest times, bringing a bad name to religion. They must be stopped and Hal, I hope you will be successful in your efforts.
dude... go to your adsense control panel and filter ads from scientology site.. this will solve the issue.. no more such ads will appear.
No one is listening the ad is still there. !
I think they are messing with you Hal you now have two ads showing !
and my guess is that you kindly put the image at the top that shows their name . so now on my screen it is showing 3 lots of the same thing. I think im gonna chuck !
I totally agree: Google should get the freakin' ads off all the blogger pages, and any other pages where people, whose pages, are don't want them.
The scientology ads are totally pukeworthy.
I want the reversephonedetective ad OFF my PROFILE!
What do you do?
This guy is a TOTAL SCAM!!!
Help? Ideas??
Melanie
PS/Bali - it isn't working - it's still there (the ad); also this guy has 1000's of url's that all re-direct to his scam.
Maybe I'll just write a hub on this crap!
Melanie
oh and ps to Hal - who said: I profoundly honor and respect all major world religions, Scientology is worthy of the name religion as I'm worthy of the name Jesus Christ.
And, yes, I could say lots more, but I don't particularly savor the prospect of finding a poisonous snake in my mail box tomorrow morning. I wouldn't be so concerned just for myself, but I simply cannot put innocent loved ones at peril.
Boy do I HEAR you - I received a dead rat in the mail.
Hal, You are saying what a lot of people are thinking but are afraid to say. Thanks for pointing out that people have a choice and that filtering is possible. - Carol
Far better idea would be to tell everyone to click the weirdo's adds as many times as possible, then Sci freaks would get an enormous Adwords bill every week and we'd all earn money, well you would anyway..... until they realized we were hitting them! then they would cancel their own adds.
Xenu will have you burn in hell for this outburst!
yeah true
A good hub!
What gets my dander up was the "Meet Asian Babes" and similar ads on my education and immigration hubs, which diminishes my reputation.
Perhaps some of you influential kilohubbers and halfkilohubbers could get together and approach HubPages collectively - off screen - and ask them to negotiate with Google about the problem.
I am writing one big hub now that is so important to me that I have not ticked the "complies with Google Adsens" box. I would rather have no ads on it than bad ones. If we all did it on all our hubs it would reduce HubPages and our own incomes, so it is not really a way forward.
My bright idea does not work. If there is no Adsens advert, HubPages will not publish.
I like Hubpages and will just have to put up with it.
I thought we could block these ads? Have just seen one on one of my pages, pretty shocked that this was written so long ago and it's still happening. Surely there's a solution to this like blocking the ads from our adsense accounts like has already been said. Then even if there's redirects, whatever they are there's surely a way to sort that problem out too.
I'd rather not see any religious ads on any of my hubs, no matter what the religion. Unless, I am writing something that is related to the religion being advertised, I cannot see how this would be apprpriate.

Much agreed, with getting rid of Scientology adds!
