The Best Washer Dryers Don't Come Cheap
75The secret to choosing the right washer dryers for your home is to consider your lifestyle and your needs. For instance, if you have a large family, it would make sense to opt for large-capacity washer dryers made of durable materials such as stainless steel. Not only will you be able to launder larger loads of laundry, but high-quality washer dryers will last through many years of frequent use. If you only have minimal space to commit to laundry cleaning needs or you live alone, then you may want to consider apartment-sized washer dryers.
The Different Styles of Washer Dryers
There are basically two types of washer dryers: front loading and top loading. Top loading washer dryers are the most common purchases for first-time buyers due to being cheaper than other styles; however, they are not very energy efficient and could actually end up costing you more money than the more efficient front-loading washer dryers.

Even though they offer the benefit of being smaller and easy to store, top loading washer dryers have a limited load capacity; meaning you will have to do more loads to get all your clothes laundered.
Front loading washer dryers will cost you more at the initial purchase, but they are super efficient when it comes to energy usage. This type of washer dryer requires you to use HE (high efficiency) laundry detergents, however they cost about the same as regular detergents. Since front-loading washers are so efficient you will actually end up using less detergent than you normally would, which will save you a little money.
Washer Dryers: Stack 'Em Up For Maximum Space!
Due to the nature of their design, front loading washer dryers can be stacked atop one another if space is limited. If space is optimal, then you can place them side by side so they provide a flat surface ideal for folding clothes or laying out delicate garments to air dry. This style of washer dryers also has a much greater capacity, allowing you to wash more clothes at once, saving you time and water.
Another distinct advantage of front loading washer dryers is there preset programming. Each machine comes pre-programmed for cycles such as short washes, delicate loads, regular washing, and even has an anti-wrinkle setting. These programmed settings make wash clothes easy, even for the man of the house, or a bachelor. The program cycle you choose will determine the amount of water required, the water temperature, how long to wash and the speed and length of spinning needed.
Washer Dryer Combos Save Even More Space!
When purchasing washer dryers, it's a good idea to consider a combination washer dryer that has the capability to wash and dry clothes in just one appliance. Combination washer dryers are perfect for homes with very limited space and they usually cost less than the price of a separate washer and dryer. One drawback of a combination washer dryer is that the dryer function isn't quite as powerful or effective as a regular tumble dryer.
There are many inexpensive washer dryer models available, but a quality pair that will last years usually cost between $600 and $1000 each. This may seem like a hefty investment for laundering appliances, especially when you could probably get a cheap set for around $400, but quality washer dryers seldom need repairs or replacement as they last through years and thousands of laundry loads.

I am not keen on the combi type as if one part breaks down( ie the dryer) it all does.
